What are locking wheel nuts/bolts?

Locking wheel nuts / lug nuts are a cost effective way of protecting your alloy wheels from theft. A standard wheel nut or lug nut can be removed with minimum effort using an ordinary lug wrench which means your wheels could easily be stolen.

Locking wheel nuts originally became popular amongst car enthusiasts who were worried about the theft of their expensive custom alloy wheels.

Our methods

We use the latest specialised tools to remove your locking wheel nuts and not just a hammer and socket or even chisel like many others; our aim is to assure the job is completed successfully and professionally!

We use 3 different methods:

Invasive

Where a specialised tool is used to cut into the head of the locking wheel nut and force it off by means of impact/shock!

Non-Invasive

Where a specialised tool is used to mould to the shape of locking wheel nut and replicate the missing/damaged locking wheel nut key!

Heat induction

Where a specialised tool is used to penetrate flameless heat to the locking wheel nut, this method is used for example-in cases when someone else has failed the removal or when methods 1 & 2 are not achievable!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it take a long time for removal?

The time taken to remove the locking wheel nuts is determined by several factors, such as how over-tightened the nut has been and how damaged it is.

What area will your mobile service cover?

The mobile service will cover throughout central Scotland. If for some reason your locking wheel nut cannot be removed on location, we may need to arrange for your vehicle to visit our workshop. Once at our workshop we can guarantee 100% that we can successfully remove your locking wheel nuts.

I've seen some DIY techniques online - aren't these as good?

The techniques that tend to be found online are designed for older-style wheel nuts and, due to the design of modern wheel nuts and wheels, they often will not work and in fact cause more damage to your wheels/wheel nuts and still not remove them.

I own a Jaguar/Range Rover - I've heard most wheel nut removal services cannot remove this type of locking nut?

That's true - most services don't posess the specialised tools to remove these locking wheel nuts. However, we do - and we can remove these painlessly and efficiently due to both our vast experience and our specialised tools.

I have tried to remove my wheel nut and I've damaged it/the alloys quite badly - can you still remove it for me?

While we can't repair the damage to your alloys, we can still remove the wheel nut. Depending on the condition of the nut (i.e. broken, socket hammered on top, etc) it may cost slightly more than a regular removal due to the increase in time required to remove.

I don't need my wheel nut removed at present, but could you provide me with some advice?

Of course; we endeavour to answer all questions from our customers free of charge

Other garages have told me that there will always be damage to the wheels - is this true?

We use the latest specialised tools to remove your locking wheel nuts and not just a hammer and socket or even chisel like many others; our aim is to assure the job is completed successfully and professionally!

Our methods used:

  • Invasive - Where a specialised tool is used to cut into the head of the locking wheel nut and force it off by means of impact/shock.
  • Non-Invasive - Where a specialised tool is used to mould to the shape of locking wheel nut and replicate the missing/damaged locking wheel nut key.
  • Heat induction - Where a specialised tool is used to penetrate flameless heat to the locking wheel nut, this method is used for example-in cases when someone else has failed the removal or when methods 1 & 2 are not achievable.

In all above circumstances there is a 100% guarantee of successful removal with NO damage to any of your alloy wheels.

Testimonials

Had a visit to Stuarts garage today to get 2 locking wheel nuts removed from my wife's Citroen DS3 Which I had previously in at the Citroen dealership, only for them to tell me after 2 hours of trying they were not coming off.Stuart managed to get both off within 20 minutes and only charged me £20 A fraction of what the dealership would have charged had they been able to get them off.Stuart is a really friendly guy who's knowledge of locking wheel nut removal amazed me.I wont hesitate to spread the word about this guy as he is a specialist in what he does.Charlie Stewart
Had flat tyre and couldn't get locking wheel nut off it was so badly worn. Took it to two tyre places and two mechanics none of who could get it off. Peugeot even told me the only way to get it off would be to grind it off which they would do for £100!! A few hours and a lot of running around later thankfully I found this place. Got it off in seconds no damage to wheel and he even replaced all four locking wheel nuts with normal Peugeot ones he had in stock. All for £15!! Unbelievable!!! This guy is top notch would recommend to anyone. Thanks mate!Paul Lawson
Changing daughter's Peugeot 208 wheels to alloys with winter tyres before she headed back North to Aberdeen for uni tomorrow. First 3 wheels no problem but couldn't remove the locking bolt on last wheel. Called Stuart at 4.00pm and arranged appointment for 5.30pm. Locking bolt removed quickly and professionally, with no damage to the alloy. Great knowledge, attitude and superb service that got me out of a hole on a Saturday night! Thanks again Stuart.Jim Dearie
